This update was posted Tuesday, 21 January. Color guard school was an unqualified success. Five teams were trained in the ancient arts of color guard, and hopefully we will see each and every one of them in a month at NEWG CGComp 2003. As soon as all the pictures and stories can be collected together, look for them here!
Nebraska Wing will be holding a color guard school in January, 2003, at Camp Ashland. This activity will be hosted by Douglas County Cadet Squadron. All squadrons are invited to send as many members as they can muster for color guard training.
The school will cover the essentials of the color guard competition. During the weekend, the course will cover the background of color guard and the underlying principles. More concretely, we will go through, in detail, the parts of the competition itself, including the in-ranks inspection, standard drill, and practical drill.
Anyone who is interested in color guard is encouraged to apply. The cadets will be grouped into four-member units, much as competition entails. If a squadron can field a multiple of four; so much the better, for this activity will allow them to develop the sort of teamwork that will make competition much smoother. However, do not allow an odd number of interested cadets to deter those who are interested. Groups will be found for everyone interested. Please submit a CAPF-31 to Captain Burgess as soon as possible. Applications for basic cadets are due no later than 3 January. Those cadets who are interested in applying for staff should do so before 19 December.
This activity will take place 17-19 January 2003 at Camp Ashland. This is a Friday-Sunday activity. The cost for this activity will be approximately $15. More details are available upon request and in the wing mailing. More details will be posted here as necessary. Feel free to ask questions. We hope to see you there!
